Here's a buckle that came from a veteran...can you tell me a little more about it? Just a run of the mill RAD belt buckle?

A "run of the mill" RAD buckle per se - yes, however, certainly not by condition. The buckle would appear near mint.
May the Forum have the benefit of a close up reverse image and also, of the leather tongue stamping?

Sure, but I'm at work and have a so-so work camera here.
The back of the actual buckle is marked "G.S." and "39" on the reverse of the shovel. The buckle itself is aluminum. The leather is marked "(L or I, I can't tell) Gottlieb & Sohne 1939 Oberstein"Comment

You have a very nice, I will say mint, condition RAD buckle, nothing special about it otherwise, the marking is one of the often-encountered one. It is the condition that makes this buckle desirable.
