Crikey Lee! - surely not showing off as it super to know that the bargain price buckles are still out there, although not that I and probably many other collectors, experience the sweet taste of such a similar purchase these days.

The bell logo and as supported by the leather tongue stamp, shows the maker as Mattias Salcher u. Sohne. I thought that these chaps were located in Wagstadt (wherever that is), although the tongue displays Jablinkau or Jablunkau(I think).

Where is Jablinkau or Jablunkau? Is it within the former Silesia and now part of the Czech Republic?

              Regards,

              David

Apologies chaps if I appear to be answering my own questions (I am going for a lie down in a dark room shortly).

Jablunkau (not Jablinkau) and now, Jablunkov as part of Moravia, within the Czech Republic.

Once, part of Austrian Silesia - Sudetenland.

                Regards,

                David

                    David,

I think Silesia is "Schlesien". This region was Austrian until Frederic the Great stole it in 1740, making it into a Prussian province and triggering a succession of wars, culminating in the continental part of the Seven Years War. Since 1945, it is administered by Poland (well, that's according to constitutional law, in fact it is now part of Poland).

The Sudetenland was Austrian until 1918 (historically the kingdom of Bohemia I think, and as such part of the Holy Roman Empire until 1803, when Napoleon sent it to its demise, the last Emperor styling himself Emperor of Austria.

                    Regards,

                    Karl
