      Jos,

This buckle must be steel (did you check whether it's magnetic?) My theory is that someone very adeptly removed any remaining traces of paint.

      Regards,

      Karl

        Nope.., it's nickle ..

The pics don't show the smooth nickle color..,but it's absolutely nickle..

I've tried to make a pic that shows a little wear at the bottom..,also watch the milky color on the inside..

In reality it's much nicer ..

            Jos,

I'll take your word for it of course. But this buckle looks in all its construction details so much like a steel buckle that I'll only believe it after having been able to take a magnet to it myself. Anyway, congrats, for if it is what you say it is, it's one of the great finds!

            Best regards,

            Karl

              Well,you're right in a way..

It's not massive nickle..,but it's not a bare steel buckle ,it's more that it's coated with a layer of nickle..

Like buntmetal badges ,they also had only a thin layer on them ,underneath they were tombak..
              Same sort technique IMO..

              Jos.
