Denazified Heer buckle, strange front repaint?

    Hi guys,

I picked up this denazified heer buckle with tab, R.S & S. maker marked and same maker leather tab, dated 1939. Appears original paint inside, however I was just wondering about the paint on the front. The adler has been well buffed away, looks like on a belt sander, and the paint seems like it's done properly. It's not a modern collector with a rattle can.

I'm just wondering, anyone seen any post war re-used buckles in this colour? It looks like the grey used on NVA buckles?

I had originally thought about removing front paint, as I presumed done by a collector, although why would they do this????? If it's part of it's re-issue then the paint should really stay....

    Thoughts?

    Cheers,
    Lenny

I believe most denazified buckles were done by civilians who just needed something to hold up their threadbare pants in the difficult clothing shortages of the post-war years. Perhaps the German who did this painted it afterward so that it would look neat and to tone down the brightness of the freshly ground aluminum.

Yeah, that's what i thought... I was happy with the buckle at £20 though. I'm still wondering if at the start of the NVA in 56 they had all new uniforms and belts?

That's what i thought, worth that for the leather tab... Anyway, I had planned to remove the front paint but I'll just leave it. To me, it's part of the history, just like helmets being made into collanders post war etc. etc.
