    HJ belt and buckle for discussion

    Hey folks,

    This came with with repro items but this one has some age on it but no maker stamps and Id like to know what yall thought?

    thanks for any info good or bad.

      Looks like a nice original nickel HJ. These are usually marked so look under the prong bar and you might find something.

        I agree with Kirby...original early solid nickel HJ buckle. There are more than a few of these earlier buckles which do not display any markings. This unmarked example is most likely attributed to maker Paul Cramer with some examples of this roundel design being marked RZM 72 on the buckle lip.

        I believe the marking under the prong bar that Kirby is referring to is RZM 50 for maker Richard Sieper. Not seen on this buckle, but the RZM 50 marking is very small so one has to look carefully. The only other maker I am aware of who marked HJ buckles in this location is Paul Schuhmacher (RZM M4/13) and that marking I have only seen on the later nickel-over-steel HJs.

          This buckle you say is solid nickel....then why can we see brass where the buckles wearing on the belt and the body removed the plating and expoed the underlying base material . Maybe it's brass and nickle plated...can anyone comment as to what materials are used in what we refer to here as nickel buckles. For instance , Are they all nickle plated over brass (just as an example) , or are some all nickel, and solid as adam eluded to and only some plated with nickle. OR... was it a manufacturer thing where different companys authorized to making these , used different materials in their manufacturing process? (just curious) it also appears some "nimrod" tested this buckle with acid to see if it is silver....that hurts the value IMO somewhat.
