DAF buckle (with belt)

I picked this up yesterday along with some other items, one of which was a DAF flag pole top (which I posted on the forum today). This is my first buckle with belt complete set so I am happy. The leather is very stiff on the belt and one portion is cracking thru the leather. Does anyone recommend trying to sofen the leather? If so, how? thanks.

There is leather oil or grease on the market, to make the leather softer.
Once cracks in it, it is too late.
Buckle looks O.K. imo
