    Unique SA buckle construction

Hello Here is a unique SA buckle I have never come across before. It is a brass box that has the edges rolled over a steel back plate. The buckle weights about twice as much as a normal buckle.

I found this old thread with similar construction.http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...brass+steel+SA

    Hi Kirby,

This is, of course, an original buckle and known informally as the "steel back" SA. A quite nice and desirable piece for the SA collector. Below are a couple links regarding this type.

    Best,
    Adam

Thanks for the link. I thought I remembered David having something like this but I couldn't find the thread.

Chad, this is buckle that I have been wanting to compare the DJ you've mentioned with to see if they're the same maker. ("Stabile"?)

            Hello Kirby,

a unknown (to me) maker used the same way of construction on LW droop tail by alu.

A very interesting SA, first time I see it.

              Kirby,

Here is an Imperial Prussian that I have known about for some time on the Weitze site and with the same exact steel back/DRGM marking. Perhaps this steel back Prussian buckle is a "commemorative service" buckle constructed later and around the time the SA buckle was produced. As Chad said, he holds a steel back DJ which he'll post as time permits. I believe the maker of the DJ he holds is "Stabile"? or something similar and this might help shed light on the maker of your SA. Again, a very special SA in my eyes.

              Best,
              Adam
