    Original tool for making Reichsmarine Buckle

    Hello, I have received from the estate of this tool - tool for making Reichsmarine Steel Buckle of the inter war years.
    the tool is authentic - and here's my question. What is the tool of value? How much can I get for the piece?

        Why would this be Marine? It's a mould for the generic Reichswehr buckle.

          Shipping is going to be serious - I bet that thing weighs 100 pounds... also, don't sell to eastern europe or the middle east please! haha

            the picture is from nash´s book. the leather is marked with "M" for navy (Reichsmarine) - "normally" reichsmarine buckles are dyestamped brass as you all will know.


            the tool is very nice, and should only be sold to a decent man like me .

              I would say "normally" is the wrong term in this case. Early Reichswehr/ Reichsmarine buckles were all produced till 1926 from steel.

              I think further that these dies are not for producing a buckle but just for a roundel. A roundel that was used to fix it on a separat box (privat purchase and parade buckles).

                  I have to correct myself: Reichswehr and Reichsmarine changed in 1927/ 1928 from steel to nickle silver respectively brass.

                    This is not correct!
                    As written above, Reichsmarine and Reichswehr wore from 1925 till 1927/ 1928 the same smooth steel buckle. Only after that period they changed to a pebbled nickle silver buckle for the Reichswehr and a smooth brass buckle for the Reichsmarine.

                      A really cool and probably scarce piece of history,I reckon there wouldn't be too many of these around.
                      Are there any markings on the bottom of the die.

                        Just had a thought,have you undone the bolts keeping the plate to the die.
                        I'm wondering if there are any markings under that as well,also interesting that the plate has extra holes in it,possibly to fit another die??
                        Who knows??

                          I'm thinking how can I sell the best piece. I am interested in edged weapons and not for belt buckles. I thought at the auction house - I will not sell the item on eBay or for bargain hunters. I can imagine that you can get good money - what do you think? Does anyone have any idea what the auction house for the best part?

                            Anyway,the discussion about smooth or pointed buckle bodies is void. This die seems to be for stamping the roundel only. Or am I wrong?

                              The champhered/pointed end on the male portion would not form a complete box buckle...and oddly enough does not fit/fill the female portion.
