Are you talking about the added piece on the reverse with tolled pattern?

Both Wiedmann's that I have owned were simple tabs, no extra pieces like the one you show.

Both styles are common on police buckles. The extra-wide leather tab protected the uniform from wear from the metal buckle. I haven't seen it on other buckles, though.
