    WH General's brocade belt buckle

I found this offered by a dealer and was wondering if there is a chance it may actually be an original. It's absolutely not my area but I have my doubts. These are all the photos I have at the moment... your input is much appreciated.

    Hello Kurt,

You must be looking for a General's buckle and belt to go with all your General visor's!

Would prefer to see a closer view of the obverse but I see no red flags with the photos provided and believe your posted generals buckle is original.

      Hi Dan,

thanks for your help and yes, I actually am, sort of smile wink

So you are saying the posted buckle could very well be original. That's good and unexpected news. How can I tell when the gold finish was done once in hand?

        Hi

Gilt aluminium buckles are really a minefield as it's quite easy to "upgrade" an original silver coloured buckle. The pics have a lot of flash, which doesn't make it easier. As KC1 said, better pictures would help but may not prove conclusive either. This buckle seems to have plausible light wear on high points, which is positive but can, again, be artificial. It really comes down to gut feeling when examining the item in hand. If those pics are all there is to go on, I personally would only buy on the internet from a reputable dealer with a no questions asked return policy.

        Not much help I know.

        Kind regards
        Kurt

Make sure it is anodized gold, not painted. Gold anodizing is very durable and will not come off with solvents, like acetone.

Thanks everyone for their help ... the dealer does not have a "no questions asked" return policy so I decided to pass on this one.
