ok...I need your thoughts....it drives me crazy when people list stuff on ebay, that is soooooooooooooooooooooooooo bad (repro/fantasy) and then it sky rockets in price.....I sent the bidders little letters stating that the item was a repro and noted the page in angolias book....so I got a few thank you letters...(that felt good) and the seller changed his description to"he cant prove if it is real or a repro" (that felt good) but I still feel wierd because the seller questioned my motivation!!! my motivation is to not let new people in the hobby of collecting TR items to get burned if I can help it...isnt that the point of this forum? I got burned a few times when I first started collecting, and it stung, left a bad taste in my mouth.. ..given , anyone who undertakes TR collecting should try and get their hands on every research book that applys to what they want to collect just as back up......sorry for the rant, I am almost done!! so in closing, it just bothers me, because sellers like this guy do us all a disservice by selling fake crap as real to the new and uninformed.....................thank you for your time and please leave me your thoughts...chad williams

      TeNo fantasy buckle

      Hello Chad

You are of course quite correct that this buckle is a pure fantasy piece and I think, dating from the 1960's and probably, manufactured in England.

eBay is however not the sole vehicle for these fake or fantasy buckles being openly offered and one has only to have a quick squint at some of the EU and Russian auction sites, to gauge and realise the huge amount of similar "interesting" pieces for sale.

It may seem a tad mercenary, however caveat emptor must apply to any collector. The marked difference however is that all of us are lying in the gutter, although some of us are looking at the stars - thanks to the Forum

The reply post is actually to raise issue and playing ever so slightly the devils advocate, towards you appreciation of the Forum - the fundamental point and purpose in my opinion is not about fakes and values, rather, all aspects of buckles per se.

      Regards,

      David
