The belt that came with the set is dated 41 on the catch, patina and ware pattern to the buckle tab and belt match but wether they were allways together we will never know......

      Very nice and early buckle.

I have one dated 1929 if I remember well, that is iron made rather than nickel.

        Very nice buckle:
A short development. In the early 1920's a one claw buckle (known as Schlossschnalle) was introduced, but this did not satisfy. For this reason a new buckle with a new pattern was looked for by the Reichswehrministerium (Heeresleitung).

With a letter from February 28, 1925 (380.2.25 V 4 VIa) it was mentioned a new pattern would be introduced. The form of it was the one with the Reichsadler as shown with the motto "Gott mit uns".
The in-depth description Nr. 783.5.25 V 4 VIa gives details: the buckle was made from Siemens-Martin steel, galvanized and matt fieldgrey lackered.

This type of buckle had to be worn anyway since April 1, 1927. This is mentioned in a letter from the Reichswehrministerium, Heeresleitung from December 4, 1926. With a new letter from April 12, 1928 (Nr. 1142.3.28 V4VIa) the same buckle version remained, but from then on it was made from German silver (neusilber), covered with colorless lacquer.

The field-grey one is so the oldest, proceeded by the Neusilber version. The descriptions in the letters also mention the thickness for the material; the exact sizes and how the catch and prongs had to be attached with a leather tab.

Just some information to know something about the development.

Thanks for this outstanding information ! So the field gray iron buckle were produced during a one year period only. That's why they are so rare.
