    skull marked belt catch ...

    any chance of being authentic?

I haven't ever seen a marking like this on a buckle or a catch. I have seen skull and rune marking on guns and scopes. You might want to search the firearm forum for SS markings.

Any time I see skull and rune markings on anything like this I am suspect. There would be no reason whatever for a marking like this on this belt hook. It would be completely covered by leather for all of it's life. if these skull and rune were used on a piece where it could be seen it would indicate a property mark. A unit mark so to speak. It is not a maker mark ...since it is hidden it would be useless for that purpose. It just does not make any sense.
Otherwise it appears to be a very nice belt hook made in the early WW1 type style. I suspect it is coated brass?

I would agree with above + usually you see a skull or a ss mark (f.e. as on this rifle http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...=552013&page=2 )

oh and the skull is ugly
