http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru....php?t=216291e Here is a buckle I had a few years ago. It is a little different than your buckle but people thought it was a quality reproduction. Kirby

          I have another opinion.

The WWI era austrian buckles have a rather different construction. They are rather similar than german ones (one piece hessian).

But these buckles are not really sought.

About yours, I do not think about reproductions but most probably post war era.

After WWI Austria become a Republic, so no more double-headed eagle since 1918 I'm afraid.

              Hello,

This buckle is 100% original, WW1 era Austrian manufactured. The Austrians did indeed make a buckle like this, two-piece, with a locking pivot hook to hold the seperate Austrian eagle on to the buckle. They are a private purchase, high quality buckle.

And quite to the contrary of the comments of fellow forum member "helmetdurpa", they are actually quite sought after.

I lived in the Czech Republic for a year, and these were more expensive over there than they were to find one here in the USA. Collectors snap them up quickly both here in the USA, and in the Czech Republic, and elsewhere. I wish to correct the comments made by fellow forum member "helmetdurpa".

              All the Best,

              Alan

                That's my thought.

75$ for a genuine WWI buckle in very good condition and not so common.
It cannot find a buyer for the moment.

That is what you call "quite sought after".

Was that important to correct me, forum member "ww1tcheklegio" ?

There lies one of the mysteries of collecting. Austrian items, unless a helmet or a particular medal, doesn't command the interest that German items do. I would have thought $75 for your buckle would be more than fair.

75$ is indeed more than fair !

But there is an evident lack of interest.

This is a nice buckle and I own one. My father and my brother found it while digging at 40km from Verdun.

To answer your question: Yes, it was important to correct you. There was no rudeness intended in my doing so. It is very important to correct "miss-information" when another forum member says that something is not WW1 era manufactured, and it is indeed WW1 era manufactured. Do you not agree? I would wish to be corrected if I posted a comment in error, and I believe most other members on here would wish the same. Again, there was no rudeness intended on my part. I think most members and moderators would agree with that point, that it is important to correct errors, and have correct information on here about items posted.

And yes, your buckle is very fairly priced at $75. Would you not think that you might receive that price for it on eBay, instead of on this forum? By all means, give it a try on eBay USA, it will probably do better on there, and bring you the $75 that you want for it. A lot of things sell on eBay, that do not sell on the e-stand, and vice-versa.

Much of the current lack of interest for your nice Austrian buckle is probably due to the current world economy, and the softening of the market for more commonly found collectibles. If you have observed in the past two years on e-stand, that there is a vast amount of items that were listed, and the price dropped drastically before the items finally sold or were removed. The current world economy can be a bit discouraging for those trying to sell things at the present moment.

My forum member ID is "ww1czechlegion" in the English spelling. Czech Legion or "Czecho-Slovak Legion"was the group of Czech & Slovak Heritage WW1 soldiers from the former Austro-Hungarian Empire area which became Czechoslovakia (First Republic) in October, of 1918, and fought against the Austrians in Italy, against the Germans & Austrians in France, and against the Austrians & Germans in Russia, and later against the Red Russians.

I wish you all the very best.

                        Sincerely,

                        Alan
