Your green Eagle Der Stahlhelm is a reproduction. The belt hook feet are way too thin and the prongs are diagonally cut. This is a common repro ..I bought one off Ebay years ago from a bad photo but when I got the chance to see it in hand I sent it right back.
It took me 5 years to find a real one but when I did and you see one you won't forget it.

      Patrick,

my opinion about your buckles is as follows:

No. 1: original roundel, unsure about the originality of the box but resoldered up side down!
No. 2: whole buckle is a copy!
No. 3: green steel buckle is a nice original!
No. 4: roundel is a copy, soldered probably on a former imperial box
      No. 5: very nice original!!!

      Best,
      Guido

        Hello All,

I agree with Guido's assessment here. Buckle #2 is a fake that fooled me and not all that long ago when I started specializing in buckles. As Guido has previously pointed out to me, notice the blurring of the letters and lack of sharp definition on the roundel of #2 as well as the other fake roundel. With buckle #2 we also see the red flags of small solder points, poorly formed "ears" and crudely cut prongs.

With regards to buckle #1 I have no qualms about it but I would suspect that this is not a screw-up or repair. Rather, I believe this was likely period done for use by a left-handed individual.

The green steel buckle might raise some concern over the narrow catch as seen on many fakes, but personally I think the buckle is original. The question of whether pre or post-1945 vintage is another question though and one that remains open. More information on this issue can be found on page #3 of this excellent Stahlhelmbund buckle thread:
