    D J with U E stamping

A somewhat standard and slightly tired DJ, although having an interesting RZM and UE stamping to the lower flange.

Anybody with other UE marks ?

    Regards,

    David

I particuarly like the top right hand buckle which displays the variation size and angle rune.

Have you had a look at the February 2004 post "DJ variants".

                      Regards,

David......the buckle in the bottomright corner that looks like brass with brass rune is a quandry for me...I bought it from a very repected collector when he was selling off his collection(which was very large 500+) he told me that it was a DJ navy buckle...it is the only DJ buckle that I have, that is magnetic....it is real for sure, and marked, but all of the books I have make no reference to any steel DJ buckles let alone a DJ navy buckle....????....your thoughts...I really want to send photos to marc but I think he is still out of town....chad

                          Hello,
The buckle in question looks as if the nickel plating has been worn off. Some buckles were made of steel, then brass or copper plated, then nickel plated. The nickel adhered better to the brass or copper plate. I have an earlyish HJ buckle made this way (steel/brass/nickel). I have a KM buckle made in this way also (steel/copper/brass). I also have a small version DJ buckle of brass that never had any nickel plating at all.
As for the navy designation, I have yet to see proof that the HJ navy had any gold insignia. It seems their rank badges were silver on blue, unlike the regular navy badges of gold on blue. I have seen many pics of HJ navy boys wearing the HJ buckle but never in colour, alas. How, then, do we account for the gold HJ buckles (besides the many fakes) that appear occasionally? Maybe someone out there can shed light on the matter.
                          Regards,
                          Kevin

I really would not place too much importance on the feature of at times, not being able to substantiate certain detail aspects of any buckle within the recognised reference works.

Kevin is right about the DJ that you mentioned, insofar as it would appear that the nickle plate has worn to display the brass secondary layer and which is a common feature. I do not think that there is great significance on the magnetic or non magnetic quality of a DJ or HJ buckle, due to as having been discussed before, the variations within this huge group are staggeringly high.

Attached is a DJ where the steel box can be clearly seen.

                            Regards,

                            David
