    buckle from vet...

    yep, another one!
As you may know, I'm not a buckle expert, but am learning all the time!
'What, when, how, and... is it?'
any thoughts would be greatly appreciated
    best regards

            Jon,
Looks like an original ss buckle to me. Nice find.

              Thanks Fred,
              phew!
It came from a guy who was in some sort of Medical corps, working in a hospital in Paris. He took it from a german soldier he treated, who unfortunately died there...
Is this an early, late, combat etc. buckle?
              regards

                Jon,
Since it is an unmarked (right?), steel painted buckle, I believe it would be a later wartime piece.

Made from 1940 onwards by O and C, the most prolific maker of TR SS buckles, then came Assmann...piece has unusual damage to the catch, perhaps damaged by what caused the wound to the soldier, John

re: the damage, you could be right.
This buckle hasn't seen the light of day since the 40's, and I believe the guy I got it from. He'd only just found it again.
Looking closely, it does look like 'old' damage. The broken edge is slightly rusted...
                    very interesting chaps!

Post 1939 SS is not really my forte, however appears a sound buckle.

                      Regards,

If it had no damage you can buy them without looking too hard for 200 to 300 dollars. With the damage it is a tough call, maybe 100 dollars. There is really no way to fix this damage without the piece looking like a repaired buckle. However, somebody may like the damage as it adds some character.

Unusual damage indeed, good buckle, Overhoff. Value?? For the guy who buys the “story” 150$ - 175$??
