Early LW Crank Catch Belt & Buckle

I just returned from the huge Brimfield Mass.Antique Show and found this belt and buckle there today.I thought the crank catch buckles were late war but this one is dated 1935.It has lots of markings and the belt is nicely marked to a Flak unit

Outstanding. I've been looking for a '35 dated LW buckle for a while and you have a killer belt to go along with it. Congrats!

Nice original buckle, and beautiful to find as a rig. The crank catch is not by any means late war, it was one of two officially authorized constructon methods for the Werkschar ("DAF") buckle in 1935, it was used on a number of different buckles, and, though somewhat scarce, not at all unknown on early Luftwaffe buckles.

                    Greetings,

                    Karl

Nice set indeed, Karl is right, the crank catch buckles designs where amongst the first buckles designs to be approved for official use. Many technical drawings and patent approvals from the early 30’s confirm this. The crank catch was used on steel buckles also during the war on many combat buckles. A SS crank catch prototype buckle was even produced by Assmann.
