    SS Brocade Buckle for Opinions...

    Hi all,

I posted a couple photos of an SS brocade buckle a while back that was included with a lot of around 65 other misc buckles (some of which I also posted on this forum). Of the buckles in the lot, none of them are reproductions or fakes. In fact there are several rare buckles, which you can see by searching my posts for "buckles".

Anyway, I received the lot a couple weeks ago and took my own photos of the SS brocade buckle (below). I'm struck by the high level of detail in the buckle (despite the rust/dirt/corrosion) and wanted to repost the new, MUCH more detailed photos for opinions...

    Thanks!

      Hi Ivan!

      Thanks for the quick reply.

When you say "Bad fake", can you maybe elaborate a bit on that for educational purposes? If indeed it is a fake, it looks like an awful GOOD fake to me. What about it is fake, and what makes it a "Bad" fake to boot?

      Thanks again Ivan!

        Hi Dzyner
In the market there are fakes very similar to the original buckles but this is a bad copy
        Best regards

            Dzyner-

You did post some very nice buckles. This however should not be considered one of them. Here are several points IMO:

            1. RZM - no SS officer buckle marked in this fashion
            2. Keepers look to be steel and are cast fakes
            3. Rust - SS buckles were produced in alum, stamped nickel or alloy (pot metal or zinc) and I have yet to see an SS buckle rusted like this with new rust. This looks to be artificially aged and not ground dug. If ground dug you would see extensive pitting.
            4. Roller bar assemby and prongs on your example buckle never used.

If you perform a search for SS Officer buckle you should see just about every accepted example known. Unfortunately, this example should be posted to the fakes / reproduction area.

It looks like the Souval copy from the 1960s-70s

another for reference - notice hollow prongs and keeper.

The prongs came from a repo SS EM buckle. They are to wide for a TR belt. You can find an example in the sticky threads.
