    I was found 2 day ago in a battlefield this buckle (with dogtag). 60 years in ground!

    Nice find, looks to be an early O and C piece, the prong bar has rusted off.

            It is made in what is called nickel silver (English language) or neusilber (original German language).

            According to Christian U. who originaly posted this information in another Forum, here is the content:

            57-67 % Copper
            10-25 % Nickel
            20-25 % Zinc

            This is the reason why your buckle does no longer have any post sleeve/prongs assembly left since this was the only part made from steel (at least on this model made by this maker (Overhoff)) and steel does not take long to rust and disappear when dug. Neusilber on the other end becomes very oxidized (green and/or brown) but does not disappear so easily.
