Pre wwi brass prussian - with tab

I think these are seldom observed with most silvering remaining, the brass looking so fine and the tab intact. Comments please. Thanks!

A nice buckle , but the tab is not original. It was added later as there is no maker/date marking as is the case in all of these buckles and the stitching is not correct.
      Do you collect Imperial buckles?

        howdy again, neighbor.
my reading is that this model's tab was rarely marked. are you saying the tab - which looks pretty good to me and certainly consistent condition-wise with the k'schloss - is fake or just added later?
bucklewise and OTW I ... dabble.
        cheers, david

cheers mac! I believe the 'big wreath' prussian type like mine is from the 1880s-1890s era, true? if so that makes the condition even more interesting. care to venture a value on mine?

Dunno what era it was from but you might be correct, value could be around $100 as its nice condition.

                  David,

You might want to move this thread to the Imperial side for more opinions. The buckle itself is original. The backside of your buckle shows appropriate aging, however does not match the frontside. I believe the face (frontside) of your buckle has been cleaned... its quite obvious the brass and nickel have been shined. I cannot comment with 100% accuracy on the leather tab. As it stands here it's one , and counting yourself.

                    thanks 'C' -

you mean cleaned like on a buffing wheel, then new matte silvering laid material in the recesses so it would book new having been once a sad ol' beater like so many? and then, after cleaning and re-silvering - probably a time-consuming operation - leaving the reverse alone?

no offense and I can claim no great expertise in koppelschloesser, but this pulls a pretty long bow I think. the wreath's details for one are totally crisp. isn't it more likely the front-back differences can be explained simply be where the buckle was stored?

                    more views heartily welcomed.

I think the buckle front may have been cleaned but definitely not buffed. The face plate is solid nickel and there is no indication of any buffing just polishing probably w/a brass polish. does not really distract from the buckle that much. However, as I stated earlier-the tab is not original to the buckle so the price will not be as much as if it had a maker and date on it as these buckles had on original tabs.

Hello I don't have a lot of Imperial but my three EM buckles with tabs are all stamped. On WWII buckles the only unmarked tabs I have come across are on RODO Army and on the cast police buckle with the crude pebbling. Kirby

No offense taken here slick. Your buckle is original, and in excellent shape. I highly doubt the brass was cleaned and shined with a buffing wheel, but the face has been cleaned. Like I said, the backside of your buckle shows the appropriate aging of brass over 90+ years... the front does not. What you refer to as a "sad ol' beater" to me means an authentic untouched piece of history.
