    Imperial Buckle, What is it?

My best guess is Saxe-Gotha-Coburg, perhaps Infantry Regiment 95. But perhaps some Weimar era ecclesiastical group. Can someone straighten me out?

It is a Sachsen Customs buckle. I am afraid that this one is a fake as the three solder points and the prongs are sure signs of a bad buckle. Also this buckle has been faked over the years and there is also some question as to wether or not the buckle itself was ever produced.

    Hope this helps,

    Bill

I am not surprised, but what the hell.. I don't even know where I got it and have had it for at least ten years. Thanks for the info.

I was planning to buy one of these ... looke d very good to me - and it is not a one with the shield on an obvious fake box.
Now I am very concerned, the one offered to me, is a fake shield married with an original box...
What brought you / other collectors to the point, that these have never been period produced ?

        Cheers

          Thomas,

I am not sure on wether or not these were ever period produced but I have never seen one that I felt 100% comfortabl;e with. The last one I owned I sold to a well known collector and I believed it was good but there was still some doubt. You do not see very many of these to begin with and most of the ones I have run across (not many) were bad. This does not help your decision I know. If it is reasonably priced I would probably buy it.

          Regards,

          Bill

thanks for your answer. Have you still got the pictures on your harddisk ?
You know, a picture tells more than 1000 words I really would like to see
            your former buckle.
I found now three pictures including the buckle I like to buy and they all
have same "mistakes" in the shield BUT all have different boxes. Blurry letters, spots at the same places and mistakes in the rope. So, I really would wonder if these three don't have the same fake shield ?!

            Cheers
            Thomas

PS : HELP please - Anybody else experienced in these ?
