Early buckles had the belt adjuster prongs attached to a rolled collar around the solid bar that holds the prongs on. Later models had a tin shroud that covered the bottom space between the 2 prongs as well as wrapping around the shaft.
Does anyone know when this transformation took place in buckle manufacture?
In belt Buckles & Brocades by Angolia I have seen the simpler method on later buckles too but the shroud is common on later buckles.
I speculate that it was perhaps during Weimar or at least sometime after WW1?
Thanks, Jerry Burney
