Opinion on this leather combat belt please

Just picked this up off the E-stand to go with a buckle. It smells like strong leather. The leather is not dry at all. In fact, it kind of squeaks like new leather when bent.

Everything I ever heard says to stay away from things that have the new leather smell.

The belt looks old and beat up...but that doesn't really mean anything. Five years of reeanacting could produce the same look result.

Am I O.K. with this one?

Blair, the belt looks genuine to me but i dont understand why it has a new leather smell of it?, could have been stored next to a new leather item for years maybe??

Has it been treated with a modern leather treatment.??
Is it definately the "New" smell or the very strong "musty" smell associated with old leather??

5 years of re-enactment could produce a similar look but it isnt going to have a new leather smell after that time.

Original patina, look at the hook. Difficult to fake or even obtain by re-enacting...

But is it a "new" leather smell or the "old" leather smell.

There is a distinct difference between the two.
