    Removeing paint

I not sure if this is the right forum but he goes I came into posection of a nice midwar luft buckle and belt.
Heres my problem somewhere sometime someone has put red paint on the buckle my question is how do I get the paint off the buckle with out damaging the medal?

Hi, I take it that the buckle is steel? Normal everyday household paint stripper will do the job. Acetone will also work as will nail varnish remover. Take you time, wear the proper gloves, eye protection and work out of doors if possible as this stuff gives off fumes. Just follow the makers instructions. Use something non abrasive to get the paint off, like an old tooth brush. Don't go with a wire brush, sandpaper, or the like

I have stripped post war paint from WW2 German helmets with sucess using paint stripper.

    Cheers, Ade.

Using acetone on a cloth and rubbing gently over the red paint with your finger tip you should be able to remove the new paint and preserve the orinal paint. Of course top layer of the original paint will go away in the process but if you care to stop rubbing as soon the older paint shows you will leave enough of the original paint to keep your buckle attractive depending of the original color. Original silver paint is the one will go away faster with close to no chance to preserve it. Green, blue or whatever else is much more stronger.
