Indeed a scarce bird ... This is the one I called 'the cracked wing' since one of the 3 variants (the most common) has an obvious horizontal crack visible mostly on the right wing. The other variant has no crack, and the third is patent marked (ges.gesch.). The later is the rarest. I still do not know at current moment who the maker could be.
Its prongs like nails are also typical of this buckle.

              Emmanuel!

Your SS buckle has what many collectors attracts:

super condition, early nickel production, rare occurrence, unidentified maker,...

              Super buckle!

              Regards,
              Guido

Here is the crack I was talking about. But this is not a rare buckle! It is scarce, but not rare. At least the ones unmarked are not.

JP, as English is not my mothertongue: Can you please explain to me, what exactly the difference between scarce and rare is? TIA!

In Italian and French it is about the same thing. But in English scarce stands for ¨uncommon¨ when rare means ¨exists only in small numbers¨.
A scarce buckle, like that one, is a buckle I know in many collections and/or I see offered for sale at least several times a year. A scarce buckle would be Capital G Overhoff, Full motto Overhoff, Overhoff's 35/36 and 36/36, etc...
A rare buckle is a buckle you can spend years without seeing it. Such includes nickel silver with rotated swastika, unmarked injected aluminum R.Sieper, Overhoff's 36/44 etc ...
I guarantee a dealer will know the difference between scarce and rare, with a wide tendency to use the latest ...

                            OK, that makes it clear!
I wondered where the difference is, because my online dictionary gave me the same translations to both the terms.
                            Thanks for your time!

                            Regards,
