    whats this belt buckle

    hello everybody

please have a look at this thread from the helmet forum

    http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...262256&page=37

if you scroll down to the bottom, 4th down from the photo with the two dead birds and shotgun, you'll see a belt buckle. What buckle is this? It doesn't have a swastika I've noticed. Are there any other belts with "Gott mitt uns" on them with no swastika?

    thanks

    Andy

      Hello All,

this is a Weimar buckle from the Army.
This is made of nickel silver.

      Best regards

        thanks for the replies

strange, it was dug up near stalingrad from ww2 positions. Maybe this was surplus or something supplied to wehrmacht troops??

By regulations, "old style" buckles & other uniform & equipment items were to
be worn until unservicible....often with older issue items going to aux. units, foreign vol.s, etc......so that's one possibility....another would be an old "Salt", maybe a closet Imperialist or with anti-nazi sentiments....wearing the "Imperial" eagle....who knows....

Looking at various "Digger" sites it doesn't seem that unusual to find Weimar period buckles.....so they were more widely in use thru the war than I'd thought, too. From what little I've seen recovered....about one in 10 Army buckles seem to be the "Weimer" type....but I don't claim that's an accurate estimate...just the examples I seen.....(on the computer....no sites where I am to dig!)
