nice collection Kirby - congratulation !

I must echo Ric - the two piece austrian looks like the one you could buy in the austrian warmuseum.

buckle nr. 4 is RZA / Republic Zuid Africa / Rep. South Africa. If armee or police or whatever ... I don't know.

Now its time for you, to find the missing buckles, like Hessen, Mecklenburg...

    cheers
    Norton

Hello I posted that buckle about two years ago, before I bought the collection, and one member thought it was a well made copy. Off to ebay with that one. Now I need to decide if I really want to collect Imperial. Kirby

        Kirby,

Great collection. A nice representation. The naval officers buckle on the left looks like it might be British. Can't see the crown very well but it does not look German. The Austrian buckle is a repro. as mentioned.
I did not know you wanted to get into Imperial German buckles. I have a large group of very nice and scarce/rare officers buckles both on and off of brocades as well as a few EM buckls including a 2 pc. brass Hessen. Any interest let me know.

It's an Dutch (Flemmish) Inscription and it reads: United where strong/powerfull.
I don't know from what time it is, it can be from like 1900 till like '80s because it's an well known expression that is also used by loads of companies and football clubs (PSV Eindhoven has the same expression in there logo).
There is also an possiblity it's used in by the Dutch owned lands (like South africa and Indonesia).
          Greetz,

The buckle is from the Boer War. It was used by Boer artillerymen, the only uniformed Boers. Z.A.R.= South African Republic. The motto translates @ “Unity Brings Strength”. If you like the Boer War it’s a very interesting buckle. I am happy to have one.

Hello David That info sounds a lot better. I thought the look like old construction.

Bill Here is a better photo of the navy buckles. I think the crowns look the same. Kirby

                  Kirby,

I am 90% sure that this is a British buckle. It certainly not an Imperial German naval buckle.

A nice collection, Some really nice examples in great condition. Pretty nice for items that are almost a century old.
                    Cheers,

Hello Bill I think your right on the Navy buckles. Here is the drawing from Reid's buckle book. The buckle looks almost identical but the Crown is different.
