Yeap Murders, Rapist,or any Soldier that did a Major Discredit to thier Unit or Uniform or just really pissed someone off. They were not allowed to wear any form of the German National Insignia or Emblem. They were used to do the most dangerouse assignments and survival was almost Nil.
If you ever saw "The Eagle has Landed" Stiener and his men were aprt of a Penal unit.

                      hello

in my opinion, this buckle is postwar, I never agree with the "penal theory"..

Built with the III reich denazified tools: they need buckles after the war too..

I think that the marking " B&N 43 " was still on the tools since 1943 to the end, never see B&N 44...

                      anymore opinion ?

That "penal" attribution is just a legend invented in order to sell these buckles as collectible item whereas reality, still unknown, would leave these buckles less attractive.

I saw this buckles on some dealers site's and I believe there oke.
I saw only un-marked and don't really like this marking looks like post-war to me
From what ive heard, they where used for Ost-truppen and sometimes for Fueurwehr there is also an possibility that they where war made, but used postwar bij polizei and fueurwehr.
There is much we dont know about yet so I should keep it if I was you.

But I like this buckles anyway, even if there post war they have nice details and there nice to display with some paperitems
