Jean, I wasn't stating I didn't believe they were made, but whether this was an original pre-1945 example or not......Germany experimented quite a bit with bakelite, as a substitute for numerous items, including rifle stocks.....Those were deemed impractical. due to ones hand sticking to the stock in extremely cold weather......Perhaps it was found to be the same with belt buckles?.......Of course that wouldn't have been a problem, IF used in the tropics.....Bodes

I've only seen this twice in my collecting years and they were out of books. One was Angolias and the other I don't remeber the name but it was all composed of buckles from the red Army Museum. I had this book sometime back in the early 1980s and wish I still did.
They stated is was a prototype to be issued to DAK troops but it wasn't strong eough to stand up to the riggers of use.

No problem there Bodes. I simply used your sentence because there was an "if" but could have used as well Ben's fist post or even Ric's "it's not confirmed if they were ever issued". The point was just to say there is indeed documents attesting their manufacture. Were they ever produced in large quantities, and for which purpose, this is another question.
