    Zinc SS 822/42.

    Hello fellow members,
I am considering selling this zinc SS buckle and would like some advice as to what a fair asking price would be for this particular piece. Unfortunately it has one of it's retaining lugs (which holds the prong assembly) broken off and realise that this defect will reduce the price of this piece. Earlier this year I spotted another zinc SS buckle (without any defects) which sold for £1060 ($1485), obviously mine will not fetch that kind of price, so how much less than this price, would I need to take off, to arrive at a fair price, which would include paypal and shipping fees? Advice regarding this enquiry would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks,
    Fergus.

      Fergus,

you already know the high end price, from that you have to lower until a buyer does say "I take it".....if you deal by e-stand

As rightly said the 822/42 is a scarce beast

The zinc SS buckles were only made in limited numbers and as such, command quite high prices.

              Cheers,
              Fergus.

Scarcity doesn't always equate to market demand. Based on the condition and the pitting this one seems high. Collectors still gravitate toward the Aluminum nice condition buckles versus the Zinc models. Just my humble opinion.

My original asking price was based on another zinc SS buckle, that was sold for £1060 earlier this year, on a very reputable dealers website. That buckle was in a better condition than mine, so bearing that in mind, I thought that if I advertised my buckle for slightly less than half of the selling price of the buckle that was in better condition than mine, that would be a reasonable starting off point, regarding my buckle. My buckle has seen a bit of wear and tear and I would like to put that down to, having seen a lot of use in combat situations during WWII. In the world of collecting antiques/militaria I thought that in the majority of cases, the rarer the item, the greater the value.

                  Regards,
                  Fergus.
