    Hi Tom

I would say , yes they all have been painted silver - but I am not 100% sure.

JP - the specialist in ss buckles might know !?

    cheers

Regulations required all SS buckles must be finished with a dull silver/grey finish. Could be paint or else, but still giving the buckle a non glossy / shiny look. Obviously there was later some exceptions for VT/W-SS units with green painted buckles been supplied by factories but the dull / matt finish remained the major finish until the end of war for all SS buckles, EM/NCO or Officers.
When there is no finish (mostly in the form of paint) remaining on a SS buckle (no matter which SS buckle it is), it means this finish is gone and the buckle is no longer in its out of factory aspect.
