    SS O&C with strange head

    Hello!

    I bought recently a "normal" O&C Ges.gesch. buckle ith a strange eagles head. It looks like a stone felt on his head.

    Anybody an O&C SS buckle with the same feature?

              As already stated privately, your Overhoff Capital G Type 2 (square marking) is not so weird. Looks like its "flat head" (or at least a head more flat than other Overhoff's) was a feature on the die itself. Add this feature to a higher strike presssure and it will increase the "flat" aspect IMO.
              Here is photo of mine (same Type 2). You can tell the head is more "flat" than the others regular O&C.

                Hello everybody,

                I don't know first things about SS buckles, but doesn't the style of the "O&C Ges.gesch." strike you as being somewhat different from what is usually seen on Overhoff buckles of all sorts with this marking?

                  I must admit that the eagles head to your Overhoff SS buckle does look remarkably flat, although I appreciate the comments and observations from Jean-Pierre.

                  Attached are images of one that I hold and which displays (a) a capital G to the Ges., (b) a non flattened eagles head, (c) a symmetrically positioned makers mark and (d), a raised DRGM mark.

                            You are partialy correct since it depends with which "regular" O&C you are comparing to. There was several dies used to make all those early Overhoff. Sometimes two buckles bearing totally different markings can have been made using the exact same die. But also two buckles bearing the same marking can have been made using two different dies.
                            But one thing remains certain: not all early / pre-RZM SS buckles from Overhoff were made using the same die.

                            What Christian is showing is a typical Overhoff made with the "check mark" die. I named this die years ago due to its "defect" visible in the center of the swastika (back view). Looks like a check mark to me ...

                            Here are photos showing two buckles made with the exact same (back / male) die but bearing two different markings. One is the same as Christian (Capital G Type 2 marking) and the other a very common O&C ges. ge sch. marking. Note that both are with "check mark".
