    Unidentified 1934 Fire Brigade

    Hi all,

Can anyone identify this rather distinctive coat of arms? Of course, it just may not be German at all.

    Thanks,

Found it with a bit of luck. These are the arms of Göggingen in Bavaria, (not to be confused with another town of that name in Baden-Württemberg) an independent village/township until it was incoporated into the city of Augsburg in 1972. The arms were granted by King Ludwig I. in 1837 and comemorate an attack on the village in 1462, when according to legend the attackers were held back by just 8 locals who defended the tower which may be of Roman origin.

Göggingen, which had just 6.000 inhabitants in 1915, has had a Freiwillige Feuerwehr since 1864.

It seems unusual for such a small town's Feuerwehr to have had their own buckle, but it must be pretty scarce.

    Greetings,

    Schleppfux
