    Officers Tropical Belt and Buckle

    Hi All!

Officers belt and buckles are normally not my field, so it would be nice if I could get some opinions on this tropical officers set.

What do you think about the canvas belt? Is it original?

The buckle itself appears to be made from zinc.

    Regards,
    Guido

            Hello Guido,

the set appears brand new and all the features look good, so nothing wrong with it , IMO.

            Best

            Ric

                Hi There,
Are there any markings on the webbing? The weave appears to be very course, and the eagle's details are a bit 'soft'? Maybe it's me just being paranoid (a healthy attitude these days)...
Did you use a flash for the photography? The paint on the hardwear is a tad 'green'...
                Regards,
                Mark.

Thanks a lot for your replies!

Ingo, the weight of the buckle is quite high and the colour is grey. That was the reason why I thought it must me made from zinc. Is zinc unusual for an officer buckle?

@Marc: The structure of the webbing belt is exactly the feature that puzzled me also a little bit. Is it possible to find out, if this special weave is original?

There is just a blurry ink stamp on the reverse side (see image) and the adjustment strap bears a faint ink stamp "95" on the reverse side.

I did use a flash but in real the green colour is also quite dark.

All in all I agree with Ric, but I have the opportunity to give the rig back to the seller and I would be happy if we could clear my qualms about the webbing belt.

                  Regards,
                  Guido

Hello Gueido Here's my tropical officers. I picked this up about 10 years ago. It looks identical to your set but it's marked 85 on the leather and has the same ink stamp. It's the smallest belt I ever had that wasn't HJ/DJ. The buckle does feel a lot heavier than my other heer officers. I don't think it's aluminum. I think your right about it being zink. Kirby

I don't have a photo of the back of the sliders but they are identical to yours. I can take some more photos. Kirby

                            Hi Team,
Here's webb details of my 1940 dated example. The weave is quite different in that the diamond weave is tight with no obvious verticle running threads.
Perhaps your examples are of a later manufacture?
                            Regards,
                            Mark.
