thank you very much for the pics and insight.. I agree your 119 picture does look as if it was an RZM 1 that was reworked. If you look at my RZM 1 and RZM 119 it appears to be the same case!!!! I wonder under what circumstances did this happen... I guess it is plausable that a manufacturer had stock of RZM 1 marked buckles for whatever reason(possibly default on a production order), and possibly remarked the buckles to get fill another firms order... This is all speculation, but it makes sense in my twisted mind I never noticed the slightly different 19 in RZM 119 !! now does anyone have any more RZM 3 buckles so we can add more comparisons???? David... the ears, marks and catch all appear to be the same on your SA as to my HJ thanks for the pics, I am excited as to seeing what else the group comes up with!!

thank you for the good question... I have been pondering it, and after the new information that David shared, I am leaning away from the idea that they were made by a seperate manufacturer and marked by the buyer... an interesting idea which I was not aware of .... I think these were marked by the maker, and think that the retrofit marking (119 from 1) supports this... I would love to see a new thread on the Assmann buckles which you were speaking of which were marked by the buyre though!!!!! Chad

Chad the maker is of course "Kallenbach Meyer & Franke" who had the RZM number 1, as well as the UE/M5 number 119 and the KH/M4 number 3.

As David correctly said, the "19" was added provisionel to the old used "RZM 1" die.
The "RZM 3" is for sure nothing more than an error...

you just made my day... another mystery solved... I never thought to look at the M4 and M5 lists for thos nembers since they were clearly marked for the M1 series!!!! it all makes sense now.. in a strange way of course..funny that the maker screwed up not one but two different marks!! once again this shows the confusion over the marking policy of the RZM ... !!!! Chad, this was the thread in question:

            http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...rich+Ulbrichts

The tab was Heinrich Ulbrichts but the buckle is definite Assmann
