WW1 Hate Belt With Odd Buckle

I am not familiar with the variations of World War One Buckle attachments and just came across this Hate Belt with an unusual keeper on the buckle.

Is this a home made device or or is it a more common variation?

a very nice set!

the buckle is a not often seen private purchase variation, which was usually used for the parade dress rather than the battle uniform.
