variant (?) SA buckle added to collection

Hey gang! Here's one that I was able to finally get my hands on. Not a common buckle so I asked David for his help...you guys know how he knows his political buckles! .

After his thumbs up - I went for it! Finally arrived today! Here's one that was probably made by a smaller firm in the pre-RZM days. If anyone has one similar - I'd love to see it.

wow..what a great catch and interesting pin claw arrangement..I am very interested to hear David's opinion and if he has one of these in his massive SA collection.. Rob, did you pick this up as a regular SA? or did the dealer charge a premium as a result of recognizing the unique features of this buckle?? Chad

Hey Chad....paid more than I would for a reg. SA buckle but when David gave me the "green light"...I thought it was worth it. It didn't come from a dealer but rather another collector. I think it's got a lot of character. Sure is different...

Congratulations on a wonderful find !

It is perhaps a little difficult to say anything "authoritative" about this SA buckle, as to my knowledge, it is unique.

The roundel design is quite unlike anything I have seen before, although I have SA buckles where the roundels have "component" parts to this special design. The wide and near horizontal wings to the eagle are very distinct, as is the proportions of the high profile swastika to the surrounding wreath. The roundel also has a very special design of lower section wreath, i.e. sparse oak leafs running in parallel.

A fantastic SA roundel by any definition.

The obverse of the SA buckle is something of an eye opener too. With all due respect, the box ears, solder points and the pin/claw arrangement are not that remarkable, however the punched through strip catch is something that I have never seen before on an SA buckle.

A very special, rare and important SA buckle in my opinion.
