    Imperial buckle for a telegraphist

    Hi,

Here are photos of my belt buckle, 1915 model.
I think it is an original but I would like to have your opinion, please.
The painting is not exactly the same as it appear on the photos.
    Your comments are also welcome

    Thanks in advance.

    Best regards,
    Stephan

          Steph,

My first re-action on this buckle is that it is bad. I do not like the fold over on the ears and I have a big problem w/any of the Telegrapher's buckles that have the sleeved prong bar. In addition the catches on either end (from the photos I see) are to close to the edge of the buckle body. I have never seen a footed catch on any Telegrapher's buckle, it should be a "U" catch. I would like to hear some additional feedback on this from other Forum members.

            Steph/ Bill,

I am by no means an expert of WWI buckles. I posted a repro telegraphers buckle that Ric can attest to not long ago. I do have another telegraphers buckle that came with it's original belt and this setup came from a pretty reliable source so I feel it is original at this point in time.

This buckle (sans paint) is different than Steph's as this buckle does have the U catch as well as not having boxed ears. Another difference in my buckle is that mine does not have domed pins but rather flat head rivets (or well worn down round pins) afixed on the catches and roller pin. I believe the catches on these buckles are supposed to be on the ends of the obverse of the buckle as determined from period photos that I have seen. However, it does have a crude pin shroud over the roller bar.

This may not resolve anything but should provide more questions, maybe answers, and your opinions are welcomed.
