buckle sets

i collect buckles with belts aswell as singles, i see that a lot off buckle collectors just collect the buckles, am i in the minority keeping the origional buckle with its belt which i see as a part of its history, i ask this as i bought a set recently with plans just for its belt,but could not get myself to split up an item thats been together since ww2, i know some sets are put together by collectors but the 1s that are from out of the woodwork i could not break up, am i alone on this? rgds dave

No, you are not. I am keeping what I find the way it was found, as long I am convinced it was not a re-association ...
I also resell those pieces the same way I found them when I need to. But indeed a lot of buyers are asking for just the buckle (mostly to save money I believe). Unfortunately for them I do not break apart what used to remain together for the last 60 years or more ...

I personally never split a set that come unmessed with since the war period.
I guess most of the collectors prefer buckles for a display reason and may be to save money, obviously an original set does worth more than the single buckle ; without forgetting it's not so simple to certify a set was original period...
I do appreciate both them : single buckle and set (if original).

Dave i,m like you in this if i get a hold off a single buckle i go out my way to find the correct belt to match up with the buckle ......but if i buy a complete origional set i will not split it apart ....i have two nice dress buckles heer & luft sittin/waitin just now for two dress belts to match & recently bought a km stamped belt from ben for my rs&s km buckle. last year i bought a single155/40 ss buckle and matched it up nicely with a ss marked combat belt this is what i do its an addiction i have .........cheers scott.

NEVER split the set up! It devalues and diminshes the history behind it. I too am a collector of buckles, belts and brocades and it kills me to see these items split up because of money - doesn't make sense to me. If there is anyone out there that can't sell an original set let me know and we will work something out.
