Early LW droop tail buckle - odd varient?

I just picked up a 1941 dated BROWN EM belt and aluminum droop tail buckle. The buckle has a catch unlike I have ever seen before. Any information is appreciated! - Mike

This is known as a "crank catch" and isn't too rare per se; too bad it doesn't have its leather tab still affixed with a nice LBA stamp or unit stamp on it. Still a nice one!
