Unusual RLB

Hello chaps, just wanted to know your opinions on this RLB. I found it whilst looking through the sites on the endless quest for new buckles, I had never seen an RLB that had been constructed like this. I emailed it to Ric, who was in the same opinion and suggested posting it to see if David or any of the others had any ideas? Is it a fake (more than likely) or an early constructed one? As already said by email, I strongly believe it a cast repro but my question is : cast from an original one or simply a fantasy configuration ?

From the pictures I would say it is a cast repro; smaller than the original or typical enlisted style. I would also agree that this might be an earlier version of a fanatsy model.

I have never seen this construction before on this buckle. If it is original it is a dam scarce buckle. Wish I had it in hand to look at it. The patina looks sure original but pictures can be very deceiving sometimes...
I do know there are original aluminium buckles with this type of catch!!

I don’t remember exactly on what buckles I have seen this exact same catch, so I have to look trough a few hundreds of paramilitary alum buckles.... but meanwhile, here are two more unusual catches on aluminium buckles. One of them close to the requested one, only smaller in wide size.

may be I'm wrong, but Ben's reverse pic shows the typical cast in bridge, what's your opinion about ?

The pic (edited) try to better point out the slightly visible borders.

Hello Ric, you are absolutely right!! As I mentioned in my first reply, pictures can be deceiving. My PC screen being somewhat darker I misinterpreted the catch as being an soldered feet catch.
The buckle is indeed a fake.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o></o>
