    Very strangely marked HJ !!

    Hi guys
just got this in the mail..I have been working a trade for about a year now on this buckle..I have been in a collecting drought, this s the first buckle I have added in months!! the stamp on the side seems to read 1.1 MM and there is a mark on the turned over ear which I can only make out a few letters..but I have a theory on this my theory is that the stock sheet material to make the box; was stamped itself by the raw material manufacturer ..it was most likely stamped with the thickness(1.1MM), material and possibly manufacturers name... let me know your thoughts...Chad

i just got one EXACTLY like that one! but mine is gray metal, and says RZN in a circle, M4/38 on the back!

youre the only one i have found on this site so far with the same design. i started to get nervous mine might be a fake though, because it is mint.

so i will be following your thread to learn more about mine!

except with mine, you can NOT see the design on the back of the buckle... now im worried mine is a fake

                    Hello,

25 $ (per year) is not a lot of money to receive a definitive answer

                    Chad,

                    an amazing theory

                    Best

Way cool piece Chad...I've never seen anything like that one before.
Congrats on breaking the drought! (but I bet you're still thirsty! )

Could well be but still do not know if measurements for belt buckles needed to be so precise in early 30's (0.1 mm is hairline thin). Your idea could be enforced if it is proven right: Take a digital caliper and measure thickness where there is no visible wear. Any value greater than 1.1 millimeter will prove the idea wrong.

Hi Chad, at first I have to say, that I love your so nicely marked buckle!

I find your theory that the markings were stamped by the raw material manufacturer somehow logical, but I don't think that it means the thickness of the material. I have checked all my nickle silver HJ buckles (incl. a double maker) and no one has a thickness of more than 0.9 mm.

Further the spelling doesn't match very good:

"1.1 M/M" is unusual in Germany, normally I would expect "1,1 mm"

Maybe someone has another idea, what the meaning could be?

                            Regards,
                            Guido

                              Ah Yes....

Very Nice Buckle Chad! Looks so strangely familiar to one I owned until about a week ago....

Anyway, I am delighted you have it, and sorry it took so long (didn't realize it was a year!) to wear me down!

It was the first HJ I ever bought nearly 20 years ago, and I always assumed it was a unit mark, although I knew nothing then about HJ unit markings,...and still don't!

I'm still hoping that someone on the forum can shed some additional light, if it proves that your interesting theory is not correct.

                              Enjoy and great collecting!

                              William
