This is the early buckle I posted earlier with the belt it was on when I got it from a local vet years ago. The back of the belt has some carving/cutting into the back which is quite strange to me. Any ideas of what this is about? To me to seems to read:
"SS Macht Josef 44....Amerikaner in Holland geladet.....21 Mai 1944"
Strange to me why this would be cut into the back of the belt. Market Garden wasn't until September 1944 I believe. Was there any other earlier operations? Maybe an air crew downed?
What do you think?
