Once again, I am new to buckle collecting, and have only Angolia's 1982 Buckle book. For the common combat used/related buckles which is the best reference book for illustrations, makers, info on fakes, etc. ???? Thanks,

to have a base reference to collect buckles, I suggest 2 books :
"Belt Buckles & Brocades of the Third Reich" by John Angolia (revised edition)
"German Belt Buckles 1845-1945" by Peter Nash
They offer a good source to do the necessary homework

Here are my recommendations for a good library. these are not in order and I add my own biases to the books.
1. Angolia- Belt buckles and brocades revised edition. Lots of photos front and back and decent descriptions. A must.
2. Tom Reids'- German Belt Buckles. 2nd edition. All line drawings but good information.
3. German Belt buckles 1845-1945. An OK book but only for EM buckles. Good photos front and back. DO NOT PAY ANY ATTENTION TO HIS PRICING WHICH IS TERRIBLE.
4. Catella's Gott Mit Uns- In French but some very good photos and good info if you read French. Tough book to find and expensive.
5. Bandau's- Deutches Koppleschloss 1800-1945. In German and very few photos of the buckle backs. Good info if you read German. Negative- the binding on this book is really bad. You will be lucky, if you can find one, to get it in even good condition.
6. Baldwin's- German Military Belts. An early work 1981, but good photos. Sparse on information.
I have all of these books plus a few others. I have used them all on a regular basis. Anyone really serious in collecting needs the best and most extensive library they can buy. I think beginners should start with the books first before they begin buying. Could save them a lot of grief. Of course consulting the Forum helps, but should not be a sustitute for the books.
