Alu Droptail buckle

Here is a recent addition, this buckle is obtained directly from the veterans family. The former wearer was a glider pilot.

This buckle is a LAu. made piece without maker markes, is it possible to ID the former producer by its characteristics?

Hello A nice looking buckle. Does it have a hole on each side were a crank catch might have been? Does it have any indication of another catch that might have broken off? Kirby

it does look like a replacement catch but if thats correct it must have been done when the buckle was newly issued and then not used much as the rest of buckle seems to have seen very little wear especially for an early buckle, dave

sorry guys, I have to disagree with your comments : by the pic the odd molded catch looks factory made.
Btw, it's not the first time I/we see that kind of arrangement even if quite rare :

Thank you for the many comments on this piece. The buckle itself is in very good condition and it does bring me joy to hear that you guys like it.

The buckle is not repaired etc .... => at least there ar eno traces at all from a repair.

Anyone a idea on the manufacturer? Seems it is not a often seen piece?

Hey Ric....Thanks for that link to the thread....very interesting indeed! I (and many others it seems) have never seen that type of catch. It must indeed be quite rare! Any idea who the maker might be? Assmann certainly comes to my mind as they are known for having tried a variety of catch types. Any idea?

I have to admit that I also suspect Assmann Firma is behind that odd arrangement, but I have no proofs about.
