Current fair price for SS Officer buckle?

What would be a fair "going-rate" for an SS Officer buckle in today's market? I am considering adding one to my collection soon, but I would like to hear some other opinions . . . and I do understand that different versions would carry different prices . . .

Brad, IMO if you shop around and are VERY LUCKY you could pick one up for around $900-1000, look at the dealers, they are not cheap, brocades are going for not far off $3000

Hello Brad One sold on estand about a week ago. The listing still shows but it doesn't show the price. It sold for something like $1850 or 1895. The belt isn't marked so I guess that's $200-300 of the price. A mint example with a tag sold on Manions about a year ago for over $3000. Condition is going to mean alot in value. I'm not sure what a nice early nickle one is worth. Kirby

I guess I cannot be more clear: if you can get one of the cheapest variant (zinc) in very good condition and pay less than $1000 USD, you can consider yourself as more than very lucky with current valuations.
There is zinc ones in not such top quality changing hands for around $1500, very nice (not mint - very nice) aluminum for $2000 or more. And I no longer talk about nickel silvers which are flirting the $3000. The USD lost a lot against other leading currencies!! It is now Europeans who are buying those and for them $3000 is no longer what it used to be ... How long those prices will last? Most likely when people will no longer pay those ...

Just leather belts without buckle (as long they are SS marked or obviously related) were already sold for that price 3 years ago ...

JP, do you remember the mint Nickel officer's buckle that was offered by Helmut Weitz about 3 or 4 years ago for $1,800.00?
I remember you telling me that it would be 10 years before it would be worth that price. Now, I would easily pay $4,000.00 for it, if it was in the original uncleaned condition that it was in, whenever I took those pics of it, and it hasn't even been half of the 10 years yet, and it is double that price. Not buying that buckle, was the biggest mistake I ever made in this hobby. It would probably be more like $10,000.00, 10 years after it was $1,800.00. Anyway, I will never pass up on a real SS buckle again, of any kind, as long as it is in great condition. In my opinion, they will never go down in value and you can pay more than what they are going for and the value will catch up within a matter of months. Just look at what has happened with the price of a common nickel, "O&C Ges. Gesch." marked EM buckle. In 60+ years, they have never went down in value, have they?
Only continue to rise and continue to rise, because there are people that will always more money and that will give more than the last one that sold. This is the way it has always been, and I see no reason to believe that it will ever change. Anyway, I just felt like rambling for a bit.

Was in February 2003. I still have a tendency to believe things are mostly based on momentum. Internet stocks skyrocketed before the 2000 crash (like Yahoo (YHOO) @ $450 USD or Qualcomm (QCOM) close to $1000).
Check current value now ... But of course you can be right. Never say never.
