    Pre-war SS belt?

Here are some shots of a belt that forms a heer belt/buckle set.

As you can see, it's a 1938-produced belt but on the reverse of the belt is a marking that looks like: VA-SS1938.

Can anyone tell me whether this means it's a pre-war SS belt. And if so an idea of value?

The buckle with it is just regular, aluminium heer. Not SS.

    Many thanks

    Chris

This is a well known marking on original SS leather belts. It is known as (pay attention to exact typing):
          V.A.-SS 1937
          and
          V.A.-SS 1938
This is a inked marking which is found together with a stamped RZM/SS contract number. The stamped RZM/SS contract number in the form of RZM xx/yy SS or SS xx/yy RZM is located by the belt keeper. Pay close attention and you should find it. Croupon just indicates the leather's quality on belts before war.

            Thank you.

What would an approximate value of this belt be?

Just added some links to my above comment (see above post).
Value? You have an indication at the time I posted my reply (see above link). Now many more did surface and their authenticity is without a doubt. I let you deal with current valuation, but by all means, a set which should bring more value if sold separately.
