    Dear Jean-Pierre

With all due respect, I do not think that any forum member thought that this Gau Essen buckle was anything other than a "good one".

Perhaps we mere plebeians could enjoy the benefit of your thoughts as to who the buckle was designed for, made by and as to whether it was actually issued and worn.

    Regards and best wishes,

    David

Another option is to just search the Belt and buckles forum for "Gau Essen" and read. All about this buckle has already been said. I believe plebeians are educated and can read, aren't they? But I will be nice for who does not fit in the picture since you kindly asked: Who? made by Assmann. When? before 1936. For the SS? very unlikely.

We are all aware that the enigmatic Gau Essen buckle has been discussed so many times before within the forum. In view of one of the earlier responses to this thread referring directly to Marc and yourself, I for one, thought that an opportunity was being provided to restate the known facts.

Obviously the opportunity is not being taken and which is perhaps a pity.

My reference to the Plebeians was a masked compliment to Marc and yourself. As you know, the Plebeians were the general body of ancient Roman citizens, as distinct from the small Patrician class.

        Regards,

        David

An interesting subject, Forum's developing strictly related IMO.
I'm sure other "Plebeians" will offer their opinion about, as for me nothing to add...

Indeed was not taken and do not expect it will be (at least by myself since I let Roman associations do what they feel apropriate). I always believed learning will promote knowledge. But part of the learning experience is a bit of personal effort, let's call it "homework". There is by now tons of informations on varoious subjects in this Forum (and else) and I believe there is even a permanent thread starting it called " Looking for information on a particular buckle??". I guess it is hard to miss it, isn't it? Who wish to learn more likely did read this post and certainly obtained benefits from his/her homework. Still (maybe we are not ready the same threads/posts since looks like you did not realize this) many inquiries are just "Is it original or a fake - please help". So, answer like "it is a good one" should satisfy most ... Never believed Ron was ignoring it was an original. Just my quick answer to who was not care to do homework.

Do not have great interest in Roman Empire. Study of SS buckles already took all my time. Sorry for this lack of knowledge. But "if" it was a compliment, Thank You for it.
