SA/ SS Fliegersturm buckle

Hi All

I would like to hear your opinions to this SA/ SS Fliegersturm buckle.

The box itself is undoubtly original in my eyes. I have seen the same type already at silvered SA buckles. But I wonder, if the emblem came originally with the buckle?

The emblem was affixed with two cut pins. They were soldered to the buckle and you can observe them in the middle of the solder spots. This is maybe also the reason, why the solder spots are in a convex shape than the normal to observe concave spots.

I think, that I have asked the wrong question. Indeed are these buckles not exactly popular and it is quite hard to say if the emblem came pristinely with the buckle.
The better question would be: Who has a similar piece for comparison?
So if there is one out there, I would be happy to see it.

guido, The box is not authentic in my opinion. The two prongs are cut wrong. Do you have a copy of German Belt Buckles by Peter Nash? Pg 444 will show yours and this is the first indication of a fake.

The images may suggest that the prongs are cut wrong. But in reality it is not as crass as from the pics. This evening I will show another view of the buckle.

I think that you have shown an extremely interesting buckle. It is in my opinion one that as yet, has not been correctly identified and I am extremely uncomfortable about referring to it as SA/SS Fliegersturm. An early NS "flying" association certainly, however I am sceptical about dignifying the buckle with a SA/SS label.

The buckle looks fine to me and I echo Ric's comments.

This is a buckle and as you are aware, which is vociferously faked and there are good, bad and indifferent copies. The fakes can however be difficult to detect and it is not helped by possibly, this probably "early" period buckle being manufactured by small or cottage industry concerns.

The obvious and overt "detracting factor" on the buckle that you have shown is the heavily plated box, which with the pin shroud and claws, gives an almost new and shiny effect. This is not a problem in my opinion and I suspect that this box was a "jobbing" item, that had various roundels or emblems affixed, depending on demand.

I have several buckles which enjoy this very distinct box and including as you suggest, SA. Attached however is a NSBO buckle which has I think, exactly the same box to yours.
